A Simple Summary

We collect only the information we need to ship books, manage your membership and borrowing activity, and communicate with you. Payments are processed securely by a third-party provider, and we do not store your full payment details. We share personal information only when necessary to operate the Library, such as providing your name and address to a shipping carrier. We never sell your personal information or use it for advertising.

Biblioteca Brasileira (“we,” “our,” or “the Library”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and how we protect it.

We collect and use personal information only as reasonably necessary to operate and improve our lending library.

Library Usage Information

We maintain records necessary to operate the lending library, including information such as:

Books are loaned to members and remain the property of the Library.

Aggregate and Operational Data

We may use library activity to create aggregate or anonymized information, such as circulation statistics, popular titles, waitlist demand, or membership trends.

We may use this information for internal planning, improving the Library, and aggregate reporting. Aggregate or anonymized reports will not identify individual members.

  • Manage memberships and process membership dues

  • Manage inventory, borrowing history, reservations, and waitlists

Certain information, including borrowing history and transaction records, may be retained after a membership ends when needed for Library records, aggregate reporting, accounting or tax requirements, resolving disputes, or other legitimate operational or legal purposes.

Where information is no longer needed in personally identifiable form, we may delete it or retain it in anonymized or aggregate form.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information.

We also limit the personal and payment information stored directly by the Library by using third-party service providers for functions such as payment processing.

No method of electronic transmission or storage, however, can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

8. Children's Privacy

Biblioteca Brasileira is a family-oriented lending library, and many of the books in our collection are intended for children.

Membership accounts must be created and managed by an adult. We do not knowingly request or collect personal information directly from children when it is not necessary to provide the Library's services.

Library records associated with books borrowed for children are maintained as part of the adult member's account.

9. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

You may contact us to:

  • Ask what personal information we maintain about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of personal information
  • Update your contact information or communication preferences

Deletion requests may be subject to reasonable operational and legal limitations. For example, we may need to retain information concerning outstanding books, transaction records, or records required for accounting or tax purposes.

We will respond to privacy-related requests within a reasonable period, typically within 30 days.
